Currently putting together a spec to replace this (horribly aged) desktop machine, and came up with:
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
X2 3800+ (or 4200+)
XTX 6800 GS (or 7900 GT)
(I'm well aware there's a fair gap between the two graphics cards
)
To keep the cost down, I was planning on using the Antec Truepower 430W (with converters for PCI-E power, and probably some Molex splitters) I've already got. The only issue being whether it would have enough juice to keep all of that kit running, given it would be in with:
NEC 4551A/2500A DVD-RWs
WD1200JB (WD, 120GB, 8MB cache) + ST3200822A (Seagate, 200GB, 8MB cache)
USB printer/scanner (Canon Pixma iP5000/LiDE 80)
Reviews seem to think that the 7900s use less power (than the 7800s) - but I've not seen any comparing the 6800 (GS) to the 7900.
Thoughts?
