PSU Fan Guard - remove?

I have an older Lian Li case and it seems the PSU will need to go in with the fan facing down (at the top of the case). It rests on a small metal cage. Can I remove the fan guard so the PSU then sits flush on the cage?

The cage is vented so air flow will be OK (although in to the case).

It will need to sit fan down on this cage - removing the guard will mean the PSU it sitting flush on the cage, rather than resting on the fan guard:

You can do that, the slotted thing above will do the same thing of saving your fingers.
