PSU fan noise.

Is there anywhere that I could take my PSU to have the 14cm fan changed? I'm trying to silence my PC and that's pretty much the only major noise. I'm not opening it myself, I have found some silent 14cm fans too - if I found somewhere I could have the fan replaced it would really help. Thanks.

No places that I know offer that service but you could do it yourself look on the net to see what the insides look like first for your psu so you get an idea what it looks like and if it's a simple case of just unplugging fan and plugging new one in.

This does invalid your warranty whether you or some one else does this.

If you do have a go yourself you have to be careful as apparently a PSU can still hold a charge even if it's not plugged in.

Plus, bear in mind that opening up a PSU will probably bugger any warranty you have on it.

That was the reason for not wanting to open it myself - the charge is enough to kill or severely injure me, plus my parents will not allow it anyhow - they refused when I wanted to open a blown Jeantech PSU before I knew the risks. Perhaps an electrician would be able to?

You ask your parents if you can play with your hardware? ;)

Its very easy to do, I recently changed the fan on my PSU, took about 2 minutes, as the fan is attached to the PSU case it comes away and you don't need to go near the PSUs internals.

My bro got a free PSU from work to power the other free bits he got (P4 system), and the fan was really noisy so he found a quiet 80mm replacement and we changed it over. The only thing was the PSU had a different looking 2 pin connector on the PCB so we just wedged the new fans connector on it and it worked a treat. The fan header was quite close to some capacitors though so we were extra careful ;)
