Hey guys.

just about to finish my build off and ive got a Corsair CS550M psu in a Cooler Master Elite 130 case (its top mounted) just wondering which way i should have the fan position. up or down?

cheers guys

Isn't their idea to have the PSU as an exhaust for the main case? Personally I'd have it facing up. However depends if you have sufficient fans elsewhere to exhaust and also depends on what hardware you are running in the system.

I was going to ask the same question but with a different scenario, bottom mounted with cooling hole below.
Whats the theory on this one as I've seen pictures both ways.

For bottom mounting the psu fan is best facing downwards. Most cases now have vents on the bottom and raised rails/mounts for the unit to sit on. Also with the fan downwards it makes cable tidying a bit easier as the main 24 pin power cable is closer to the mobo tray.

@ dholdi:
If you're running hot GPUs fan up may be best. If not then fan down with a good filter may be best. See what suits your system.

That's the way I was thinking as it would draw cooler air from outside the case, my concern was it drawing dust in even though my case does have a filter its not a particularly fine mesh. I hadn't considered the cabling but as you say that would be an advantage.

Not sure I follow your logic there, I assume you mean it will assist in drawing hot air away from the GPU's but this would warm up the PSU which the fan is trying to keep cool ? Agree about a good filter, its finding a material that doesn't restrict airflow.

I use fan down, but you can do fan up to help exhaust a bit of heat. Yes, it heats the PSU up but usually a half decent supply can take it.

Ladies tights are amazing for use as dust filters. Though you'd probably get a few strange looks if seen buying them.:D
