Fan within the PSU of my machine has recently started rattling, I assume a bearing is going, eventually the damn thing will fail.
PSU don't tend to be user serviceable iirc, due to nasty cap shocks
any suggestions on a stopgap to avoid the irritating noises?

I haven't tried but cant you replace the fan?

what PSU is it and if its under warranty get it repaired or replaced by doing rma?

Its an old Tagan 700Watt jobbie, just realised it even has a switch on the back for 'normal' and turbo', it has been my main beasts PSU for as long as I can recall.

The fan might be replaceable.
It certainly isn't easily accessible :(

On further inspection I think it is a tagan tg700 u33 700w or something remarkably similar.

Internally it would appear to have 2 fans, of which I think the more external one is the rattling fellow.

Hopefully should be accessible and replaceable, but not quite at the minute, rattling has ceased for the moment, and I don't have replacement on standby in case I mess up :)

I'm going to move this into the PSU section as you might get more detailed help.

It should be repairable but as you quite rightly mentioned, there are dangers working with them.

You're based in N.I. yes?

Not sure if it's any use to you, but I'm in the Newtownabbey area and have a spare Corsair TX 750 sitting here.

This is purely on a lending basis as I will require it at a later date. :)

Great offer.
Give me an hour, I am reasonably sure I have a similar model on 'loan' to a family member, and might be able to recall that over the next day or two.
Rattling has stopped for now, but no doubt it will need replaced at some stage.

Not a problem. Just trust message me if you need anything.
