I have had my PC running fine for just over a year now and it was all built from new apart from the CPU and PSU.
Last couple of week it has taken to randomly just turning off. Not a shutdown but an immediate power cut. This can be at random times and either in a game or on desktop. There seems to be no common cause. I get the occasional beep from the case (no internal speaker) that either sounds like a HDD or some other component I cannot pick out.
Usually after a power off the PC will start up again straight away. Sometimes it starts and then off again within a few seconds.
I opened up the box and cleaned out a lot of dust and detritus. The PSU and AIO watercooler heatsinks were full of dust and paint particles from airbrushing models in the same room. I used my airbrush and set the pressure up to around 80psi to blast out the dust and all looks fairly clean now but still the random power offs are happening.
PSU is a Corsair 650W modular unit but was made in 2011 so probably not the greatest. I am running and i5 3570K with a 760OC 4G GPU plus 2 SSD and 2 HDD's off a Gigabyte H77 board in a BitFenix Micro case.
Airflow and performance has been fine for a year so I suspect the PSU is dying. CPUID reports a 12V raid of between 11.2 and 11.9V when it is stable and depending on what I am doing. The PSU says it is single railed so it is likely just undervolting and shutting off for protection?
I have ordered a replacement PSU anyway just incase but some extra thoughts on this being the actual cause and not a dying GPU or Mobo would be appreciated
Anyone know any other tests I can do to check the PSU that does not involve a multimeter or taking it apart?
