PSU faults *fixed should i be concerned?

People may have seen my other post as regards computer issues I had, Computer failed to post.

After listed my problems and spec people were quick to point out my old hiper psu was the problem.

Which did seem right after some advice I went for the EVGA 750w G2 which I picked up that day went home and tried it once again it failed to post.

This was either now looking like cpu or mobo after deciding against spending more money to try and troubleshoot this I made the 300mile round trip to a friends who had a spare everything.

His test rig ran perfect with most of my components posted on all tests just before we proceeded to swtich the mobo we decided to try the new EVGA on the test rig all his components and it didn't post faulty unit?

I tried his 1200w corsair and my system posted and booted to windows it had to be a faulty/duff unit.

By this point my head was steaming and thought I was supplied a faulty unit return it to the shop the guy was cool and ran it on his test rig in the shop it was a basic intel system but the EVGA posted fine my head was blown at this point.

Was something else at fault? with his 1200w posting on mine I just assume it wasn't getting enough juice even tho the 750 evga had more than enough, I returned it and went on a hunch to get more power I exchanged for the 850w corsair.

Installed last night and posted first time pc has been running fine now, This is abit confusing and my friend seems to believe I could still have issues and the extra power could be pumping extra life out of other faulty components.

Yea very odd that the more powerful psu's were working fine, the old hiper was an 880w but just feel ive got a ticking time bomb on my hands and its ready to die any moment :(
 
been home this evening an hour now, the GF said she was on pc and it crashed twice this morning but it ran fine for me and last night was gaming a good solid two hours.

I have just experience 4 crashed in past hour two different types.

two it completely shut down and two keyboard/monitor/mouse cut out but computer/fans were still running.

Totally baffled on where to go from here getting to the end of my tether :(

after every crash its posted and booted to windows every time

wow don't even go there with gfx, was hoping that was safe!

But going to my previuos issue before this psu my old gfx didn't post either so hoping its something else or nothing!
 
friends rig was 8gig ram ,V formula mobo , 1100T cpu and 4670 gfx.

also computer recently just crashed in bios, I was only trying to change the time and date settings

Given that it seems to be crashing at random, even if you're not gaming, you could try putting the 8800GTS/another spare card back in and leave it like that for a couple of days. If it still keeps on crashing, then you know it's not the graphics card.

Yes it will mean you won't be able to play any demanding games, but if it doesn't crash, then it would suggest a graphics issue. If it still crashes (quite likely I reckon), I would think you can be fairly sure it's a motherboard/BIOS problem.

Maybe a dumb question, but is the 290X plugged in using one PCI-E cable from the PSU or two separate ones. Apparently some people found that using two different power cables helped...I don't think it'll make any difference in this case, but I suppose it's worth trying.

its a single splitting module cable in gfx, could be worth a try, I will test the other gfx tonight also and try and stress test it as best I can on the 8800.

I have spoke to the store I got psu and asked the question if I buy a new mobo and its still a problem I can return it and get a refund or exchange against other components

looking at something like this for a mobo replacement I no its a step down but I don't wanna be getting into a 150 quid board again as im already 100 quid into a new psu.

yea going to try those tests this evening , need to find a suitable replacement gfx now just in case, ive made another thread to get some advice on a replacement

A break through maybe? well the voltage didnt work also tried two separate cables on gpu not good either.

Computer still boots and random drops, crashes and restarts, loading up a game escalates this rapidly cannot even play.

I removed my 290x and installed the 8600gt (thought it was a 8800gts)

Tried to play csgo and battlefront but it wouldnt run either but managed to run Left for dead2 which i had installed wacked settings to the max i could on this card seriuosly it runs like a bag of **** 5fps max lol

But so far its been running fine for hour and half we may have a diag folks!

Going to leave it a little longer actually thinkning of running it over night just to test

still doesn't explain a lot of things mainly why a more powerful psu its getting it to work and a lot of other things too, gonna keep the new psu and hopefully bag a 390x in all this sale madness.

On another note spoke to supplier and they have raised an RMA the old one gets collected tomorrow.

Its got a two year warranty whats even better warranty expires 28/11/15 :p

hopefully they pay me out as they said they will refund me and as its no longer available

yea ive got a rounded screw and one missing think they might tell me to get lost.

Must have lost one in all of the excitement of fitting the closed loop cooler it is 2 years old.

Wonder if I could get away by saying I re applied compound and blew out the fan maybe if they question it?
 
little update but the GPU was dead and the new 390x has been running sweet.

Whats even sweeter is that supplier just emailed me getting a full refund on its way :D

Got a better card and £100quid extra in my pocket not bad :)
