PSU for 1070GTX

If you already own the PSU and it is a good one then practically anything that isn't ancient, e.g. 500/550, 600/650.

Cheers, I'm planning on giving the old 1070 card to a friend to use in a PC they already have but not sure what PSU it's got in it.

It currently only has onboard graphics so doubt it's high powered.

I'll go see it tomorrow and find out.

My son's ITX setup runs a 1070ti and a Ryzen 3600 off a 450W Kolink psu with no issues whatsoever.
Talk about playing with fire!!

The problem with the 1070 is that it is prone to some very big spikes in power draw. I had a high quality 650w platinum psu on my old 1070 and it kept bluescreening and crashing due to the power spikes. I upgraded to a 850w psu and it was fine after that.

I wouldn't trust the kolink core
I've used a couple of kolink classics and golds to upgrade family/friends computers and they've been absolutely fine. These aren't powerhouses but they don't need to be for the bog standard regular user. I wouldn't use one to run a mid-high end build though

Surely OCUK wouldn't keep selling them if their RMA rates were too high? You don't see too many dead Kolink posts here on the forums (with respect to this being the forum of a place that sells a lot of Kolink).
They're just known to use low quality components and as with any crucial part of a PC, I wouldn't choose to use one. But that's just me, I wouldn't take any chances with one of most important parts of a build.

You could run the cheapest Chinese unit for years without issue, but that's not something I'd do. I like knowing that the power is provided by a high quality unit as I have a graphics card that cost the best part of a grand, everyone's circumstances differ.

Plus Kolink have a short warranty length (usually 3yrs but some have 5yrs), so even they do not have faith in them.

OCUK prebuilds have a 3 year warranty so i suppose the the PSU only has to match this.

Kolink power supply? That'd be a red flag right there for me.

Why? Just cause it’s the name Kolink?

The cpu is not overclocked, and the GPU is running stock for simple games like Roblox at 1080p 60hz. I’m not pushing it hard and it doesn’t actually run that often. I’m not expecting it to be a high end psu, mega efficiency platinum effort … it’s a basic system, with a basic power requirement (it was originally built with as an ryzen 2400G computer, so I was barely drawing power )… and you know what, its been absolutely fine and reliable for number of years now. So in reality, its been a good buy, reliable and on that basis, if the same needs were to present themselves, I dont personally have a reason to not consider it.

Would I run a higher end system off a lower end model PSU ? No. I fully get that.

Because as I've said, these are mostly using low quality components. I don't know about you, but if I know a brand generally tends to do that, I don't buy it. Don't get me wrong, brands like Seasonic and Corsair also have units that are turds and which use 3rd party OEMs and low quality components. But with these brands, these units are in the vast minority.

With Kolink that's the opposite.

And I get what you are saying here. The clear answer here is if the user knows this and can replace the system should something go wrong, then fine, have at it.

But there are some users who have what some here would call a low end system, they can't always afford to replace that and for an extra 10 or 20 quid could go for a slightly better quality unit that would give peace of mind.
