PSU for 7900GTX

hope so :D I have some 'no name' 380w thing in at the minute so the sooner the better as far as im concerned!!!!!

Shouldn't really scrimp on PSU tbh......bad me....

hmmmmmm my hiper x 580w does me fine...got it for £45 anyways last december....bargain if you ask me! :D

Anyays at their current price there is better options as detailed previously :D

The current ones run very hot from what ive read.

Enermax has always made quality PSU's according to all the reviews , i also can't find a single bad review on the Liberty 620w, its just ace :D

Its extremely unlikely that the 7900GTX requires 25Amps@12V, thats 300watts just for the graphics card.

Its more likely that the recommended 25A is taking into account, the fact that a high end Prescott CPU on it's own is drawing 10A from 12V, so the rail has to be strong enough for that.

On a dual rail PSU, the CPU gets its own rail, which also covers any other 12V requirements on the motherboards, while Molex/Sata/PCIX external power cables come off the additional 12v rail(s)

A 7800GTX 512 uses between 45W idle, and 95W under full load, the 90nm process, and lower transistor count of the 7900GTX lowers the power requirements slightly. Your basically talking around 8Amps@12v for the graphics card.

ATI's use more power at the moment, around 130W for a single top end card.

Obviously a crossfire, or sli system will double that. So you would want at least 22A for a crossfire system, and thats before you have anything like hard disks, fans, and cpus.

Are you trying to say that its not worth spending £90+ quid on a psu that will have too much power ?

I tend to think that its better to buy a nice High End Quality PSU because if you spend £50 on a psu that will DO the job, you will always end up needing to buy a bigger one later on that might cost £90,..

So basically Buying the Better power supply in the first place, will save you money in the long run and you wont need to buy one for a long time after :)

** Please slap me round the face if i didnt quite understand what you meant ** :p

The guy might be seriously dyslexic for all you know. Besides, you haven't been banned yet for the amount of tripe you post. :p

A quick check through your previous posts shows your grammar ain't too hot either:

only thing x1800xt has over the 7900gt is the reliability.

if nvidia managed to sort out thier cards so that they don;t keep dying then 7900gt would be my primary choice.

run memory tests. its an easy test and will eliminate the ram from thsi equation/

7900 just way too dodgey.

Don't be so quick to criticise, genius. ;)

Apart from the modulars which uses ridiculously long cables

long cables are needed for people who have massive cases like the coolermaster stacker. also makes it easier to do some tidy cable routing if you have a side window on your case.

Ive just ordered the Thermaltake Armour, Upgrading from a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream,

I have a feeling i will need to cable length :)

Fitted my new 700w PSU as soon as I got home from work.. Everything seems.. well the same.. but havent really done anything taxing yet, lol. I'm presuming now i've more then enough power this will stop the odd time my soundcard isnt detected on boot up (I guess lack of power reaching it initially before) and the odd pause and freeze under stress in gaming.

Thanks for all your help. Heres hoping my XFX 7900 GTX OC I got last week is one of the good ones and i dont have a problem with it :)
