The OCUK website states "500W minimum, 600W recommended" power supply. In the past, I've learnt that as long as you have a PSU from a reputable maker, then you can usually get away with what's less.

I'm running an Akasa 480W PSU, considering to take the plunge for an 8800GTS or an 8800GTX. Should I be thinking of getting a 620W Corsair for example, or could I probably get away with what I already have? Rest of spec in my sig + 2xSeagate 250GB Barracudas.

480w will probably power them fine, its not the max wattage, its more what they have on the 12v rails, and seen as your already powering an x1900 XT, then id say your PSU should be fine, will be for the GTS, not sure on the GTX, but that depends what you have on the 12v rails. :)

As long as you are not going nuts with HDDs you might get away with what you have.

The corsair 620 is an excellent choice and you'll be covered for SLi if thats where you are heading.

To give you an idea, the system in my sig is powered by a Tagan 580W U-15 Easycon PSU and it doesn't break sweat even though its powering my Asetek 12V water pump. :D

I run 2 gigs, e6300 stock, 1 hdd, zalman reserator and 8800 GTS and I have a gadget that allows me to see how much my rig consumes, Its just over 280 while gaming, and count in my 2.1 speakers! So the Nvidia etc "recommendations" are bs and way over the top

300 should be fine. The antec tripower 430 is also very good, I had used it in my older rig.

My system in sig runs just fine with my Seasonic S12 430W.

I agree, a quality PSU is more important than the headline power figure.

Hi, I'm curious to ask if the PSU (supplied with Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case), 450W be able to handle a 8800 GTS OC 320MB or 640MB?

I would say so. I got one of those plug in energy monitors at the weekend to see what my rigs and other stuff are drwaing at the mains. My main rig, in siggy, with a clocked to death 4300 is only drawing 223w at the socket when gaming. That's a hell of a lot less than i thought it would be. I will run 06 later to see what it draws when benching and post back.

Ran my GTS 640MB on an Akasa 460W with 19A over two 12V rails for a while, easily enough to power it, but I'm not sure about a GTX. If you want to upgrade your PSU, I strongly recommend the Corsair 520W or 620W PSUs. :)
