Not the most common request!

I have a Pentium 3 600Mhz.
256MB and another smaller RAM stick.
Probably going with an ATI Rage Pro or Voodoo 2/3 graphics card.
And a basic ISA Sound Card.

Slot 1 Motherboard.

Now I've no idea what PSU I need because I'm assuming the connections are different compared to todays connections and I've no idea what PSU I had as a kid, obviously..

What would "do" that isn't overly pricey?

This perhaps
My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £41.45
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Biggest problem will be the main motherboard power socket. your board is quite old so it may not be 24 pin, it may be 20 pin, plus I'm not certain that PIII needed a supplementary 4 pin CPU power lead. Most PSU's still have molex connectors so powering other parts of this PC shouldnt be a problem, if it doesn't have them just buy adaptors.

For the record the Outervison PSU calculator doesnt list hardware that old, so I picked hardware that was closest & was most power hungry at a guess! :D

Yeah I think Slot1's are 20 pins. Would a common 24 pin not fit? is it the pins missing or the plastic pieces as well?

- 1 x 20+4-Pin ATX12V/EPS12V
- 1 x 4+4-Pin ATX12V/EPS12V
- 1 x 8 Pin EPS12V
- 2 x 6+2-Pin-PCIe
- 3 x SATA
- 2 x 4-Pin-Molex
- 1 x Floppy
- Warranty: 3yr

These are the connectors of the PSU that OP specced. It's a 20+4 Pin power, this means that the extra 4 Pins are optional.

Ohh yeah of course, they just dangle.. that should be fine then I think.

Also will have a floppy drive, cd rom, sound card, graphic card, so I'll have enough oomph and cables.

Just about anything would do. I remember only taking the chance to upgrade to a 330 watt Enermax PSU at the same time as upgrading to a 1GHz Athlon Tbird with a GeForce 2.

I most certainly would only had a 250 watt PSU right from the PII era up to the Athlon 750 I had before upping to the Tbird. So basically, just about anything you can buy these days will do absolutely fine.

I just use a bog standard inwin 300watt psu in my Pentium 3 1.4ghz. What dos games do you plan on playing as a lot of the older games can be sensitive to CPU speed?

DOOM, little big adventure, that sort stuff. I may be alter the CPU speed, I have seen it done. Does that depend on specific motherboards?
