Going to start mining bitcoin again and have a spare GTX280 I might as throw into my rig to add a tad more power. Currently rocking a Corsair 950Watt PSU which runs my 5970's maxed out for months on end no problems, not sure if it will handle a GTX280 on top though.

Any info appreciated.

What are Bitcoins worth now, around $5?

They must have reached the point where it costs you as much in electricty to produce as you can get from selling them.

Well I'm paying 18.49p per Kw/h, which with two 5970's using around 700Watts will use £3.10 per day.

I'm not sure on the current difficulty or exchange rates right now though, so I don't know what my earning potential currently is. The last time I mined I simply recorded my power usage over a week and tallied it against my earnings, which was £15/wk profit.

Not that long ago bitcoins were worth $20 and now they seem to be around $5.

You need to recalculate taking account the current price of electricity and the current value of Bitcoins.

At 18.49p per KW/h the electricity will cost you £21.74 a week assuming 24/7 usage at 700W.

$5/Bitcoin is around £3.20.

So that's 6.79 Bitcoins a week (call it 1 a day) just to break even.

How many do you think you can actually produce?

When I mined in the deepbit pool I generated 106BTC/Wk average, but that was with a much lower difficulty factor and back when 1x BTC was way under $1

I reckon that I was making around £45/wk, £20 of which was electricity. I think the easiest way to do this is going to be pay up the electricity out of my back pocket for a week or two and just try at it and see if I make any cash.

I learnt a hard lesson from the last time and that is to use fan profiles rather than hammer the fans at 100%: An exploding bearing really does make you crap yourself.
