PSU for i7-2600K - do I need an upgrade?

Hi,

I currently have a 500W Tagan PSU. Am planning an upgrade with:

Intel Core i7-2600K
Asus P8Z68-V PRO Intel Z68
Corsair Vengeance 8GB

Also I have a ATI 5850 and a Asus HDAV 1.3 card.

Is my existing PSU going to be sufficient?

Depends on the 12V amperage. What does it says on the side of the PSU?

With that kit, I'd get something more adequate. Again the Antec 620W comes highly recommended while stocks lasts (£50). 750W / 850W PSU (XFX, Antec or Corsairs) if you want SLI ready.

I don't think wattage is an issue. An ATI 5850 system only requires 500w according to an online guide by a competitor site that I am not allowed to post. I didn't think the CPU made much difference on what PSU you need.

for an i7 920 and an ATI 5850 anandtech got a power draw for the entire computer of 350W, so your current PSU is just fine

just noticed the HDAV card. no idea of the power consumption of that. depending on how much tat uses, you might want to get the antec that oliver recommended

I don't think it would go beyond 20W, or an extra 10W over what usually is integrated audio in the tests, so it should still be all right.

Well, the PC doesn't start straight away when I press the power on; the fans spin up and shut down twice, then the third go it boots as normal.

Last night got a BSOD (Kernel data in page) and my SSD wasn't recognised in the BIOS till I powered down.

New PSU time?

Doesn't like starting from cold :/ Difficult to say, but it is the weakest link.

EDIT : I suppose the 550W will be enough. The Antec 620W, while gone up in price, is still competitive, but the XFX 650W is on offer and a better buy imo, for £2.

Hehe, just got the 650w XXX edition myself instead of the 750w Pro for around the same price as I wanted modular

. It's the only thing I need before I can get building so feel free to urge it to come quicker
