PSU - for intel and amd boards?

*Warning* silly question of the day lol..

Will a PSU i have for a AMD board, fit onto an INTEL MotherBoard or do they make seperate PSU's for each type?

I am going to, well its turned up so i guess it should read, i have a Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard which i am using to upgrade my dads AMD setup.

Cant see any fine print on what PSU it needs so thought id ask you intellegent people.

Yes.

What PSU do you have? Older PSU may not have the connections required on modern mobos.

i have a Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard which i am using to upgrade my dads AMD setup. Will be using this one in a mini case too. just not sure how much power this thing will need, kind of strange building a small pc when im use to building servers lol...

PSU brand? model number? rated wattage? What CPU & GFX are you going to use on this board?

You said it's a min-case, how small is it? You need to make sure it takes full-size ATX mobo and not just micro ATX.

All i can remeber - well, reading my past post as the PC is at home and im at work is;

PSU ATX-400
Grpahics is Nvidia 6800
The chip is a intel 1.6 c2d.

i think i may just buy a new case + Psu for my dad and only keep the HDD/GC from the old base unit. 6800 are still ok to use with games arnt they?

400W is enough for the spec provided that it's a decent quality PSU and not a generic one that comes with the case.

Yes 6800 is still ok for games at low resolution.

Well, as i didnt build the system and the rest of it is crap - i think id better go get a new PSU. whats a good cheap graphics card to get now adays then?

something to play C&C3 and AoE3 type games.

1950pro or the XT for just a little extra, but you will really need a decent PSU then. Antec Trio 430W or Enermax Noisetaker 535W are good value for money.

Your own 6800 will run aoe3 maxed, and c&c3 almost maxed @ 1280x1024, my 6800gs does anyhow.

you'll need a 20 pin and 4 pin ATX connector from your PSU for the board, other than that, wattage should be fine.
