PSU for rebuilt rig (R9 290 is tripping my generic)

Rebuilt my old rig, old AMD A6-3670 on an MSI MS-7786, Kingston v400 480 gb SSD, generic dvdr/w, 8gb (2x4gb) GeIL Dragon 8GB PC3-12800.

I've changed from a Radeon 7950 to an R9 290 and my generic 750 psu trips out when ever load the card up it cuts out. I can run the 3d parts of passmark performance test fine, moment i run furmark the machine shuts down.

I'm also getting the occasional non-boot, hang boot (these both resolve after 2-3 resets) or not turning off after windows has closed.

If i put in my 400w 80+ psu then i can run furmark happily but i'm still getting boot problems.

Which points me to a power problem.

Will a 650w 80+ psu be enough? (basically anything i can get next day from the shop)

Thanks

It would depend on make of said 80+ 650W psu.

Google PSU tier & check to see if it matches up with make & model

Tier 1 to 3 should be OK - Tier's 4 & 5 = no.

Think yourself lucky that all it did was trip out and that it didn't blow up and take some other components with it. The psu is not the place to save money. Buy a good one and it will last through several upgrades.

If this 650w gold rated psu is a good make with quality internals then yes it should be fine. Even a quality 550w unit would be fine for that pc. What make and model are you looking at getting?

That power supply has 2 years Warranty
If that doesn't put you off what will?
Your budget is restraining you
That system will never draw more than 350W
But that doesn't mean it will be enough
A 500W power supply will be enough for the job

The first one is from a company that is very trusted as quality and 5 years warranty
But it is on the low side at 450W
It will run your system perfect
But you will have to be careful when you will upgrade your components
a 125W FX amd cpu will not be advisable to run over a long period of time as that will take consumption to about 400W

I did have a nice long reply which a few option that had taken my eye, then i went away and did something and the token timed out and it all went away (and opera didn't save my text when i went back a page?)

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/koli...s-bronze-modular-power-supply-ca-02e-kk.html# is looking to be my best deal, plenty of power on the 12v line and several pci-e power adpaters.

Garbage. Do you honestly believe you are getting a good quality semi-modular 700w psu for £48.95. The answer is no. Like I said before, the psu is not the place to save money.

Apart from the Superflower I wouldn't touch the recommendations above either. Unfortunately with all the price increases for a really good 550w psu you are now looking at £75 minimum from the in stock choices from OCUK.

I've got that PSU running a 2600k at stock, an R9 290 Tri-X, and the usual extras (8GB DDR3, an SSD, single HDD, etc) and it's running absolutely fine. As others have said, if you can spend extra on the PSU then definitely do so, especially if you're planning on overclocking anything, but if your budget constricts you to this level, then this PSU should do you fine. It's certainly not 'garbage', unlike some of the PSUs you could buy even at this price from elsewhere.

That's why i came here to ask, i haven't needed a psu with any umph in a long time, so i came here to make sure i wasn't throwing money away.

The problem that we are faced with that power supply is that it just came on the market and nobody wants to trust their PC and house with it
The manufacturers is not supporting the product either offering 2 years warranty
The power supply is a really big and important thing
As a failing power supply can fail without incident
Or can fail taking your house up in flames
Or just kill all of your components

I have seen burning 24 ATX plug =dead motherbord
The blowing up tipe that fills your room with smoke
The crappy one that kills my ATI HD 2900

You are free to decide
We gave you our opinion
And nothing you say will change our opinion
Well mine at least

It takes quite a while to find specs for a crappy power supply
This thing is a 585W
not a 700W
It can only outpoot 48.75Amps on the 12V rail
This is rubbish

From a good power supply about 20.5 Amps
From a rubbish power supply maby 21.2Amps
God knows the voltage drop the crappy power supply will have at souch a power draw
Or the resistance of the tin couted aluminium wires in the PSU

I will elaborate
Kolick power supply is like a big american car 8 cylinder 3litre 80 miles per hour top speed
Seasonic power supply small 1.3liter 4 cylinder 120 miles per hour top speed

The number of 700W has sold you the product
And asking the amperage draw of the graphic card is a dumb question
I have stated the power consumption that your system has

Which usually means that the person seeking advice ignores everything he has been told and goes and buys the crappy psu anyway. I dread to think what cheap and nasty internals that crappy Kolink has.

It might work
But my tipologi is that i am too poor to afford cheap things
I can't afford to keep replacing stuff
Rather buy once and be done for a long time
But i went overkill with 1KW
Not my fault Black Friday deal
