PSU for Two Old NVIDIA GTX 9800

Afternoon All!

In this wonderful working from home world, I've been exploring adding an additional screen (or two) to my current 2-screen set up, running from a well aged desktop at this point (2007 vintage!).

At the moment, I have an old "Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Case - EarthWatts 500W PSU" running the single 9800 DTX and have never had an issue.

I picked up an additional NVIDIA 9800 GTX a while ago cheaply as a spare, and think I'll just add it to the spare PCI slot in my case to plug in another screen. However, my PSU doesn't have any more 6PIN power points, and from what I've read, I'm not sure my old PSU has the juice to power both.

The modern PSUs all seem to be backwards compatable (24PIN power for the motherboard etc), but I'm not sure which I should go for...even questions such as:

- they're all the same size?
- do I need to go all in and buy a titanium?

I don't really have a budget as long as I can get something that's at least semi-decent and a reputable brand.

Any ideas/advise would be much appreciated, even if its "get XXX as the second graphics card"

Thanks!

Depending what you are using it for; perhaps a cheap card with the outputs you need might be a better investment. I imagine a 9800 is equivalent or worse than an igpu.

I had thought of this as an alternative but to be honest, given how old my tech is I wasn't sure what I could buy etc. Last time I built a machine was 2007...the one I'm using! Normally I'd have gone to my local computer store and asked the guy some questions etc, but unfortunately he's not open at the moment. I was just trying to think what was an "esay" solution given I had the 2 9800 already, a third screen already. If it mean just buying a decent PSU I wasn't too stressed given I know its a vital component and in theory can be upcycled if I ever upgrade.

If you had a suggestion o what would be a decent simple graphics card happy to have a look at alternative options....I think any spare power connectors from my PSU are probably the standard molex ones.

I had a look and the other day and if you are fine with the output selection there are plenty of options but most are out of stock. The options at this end of the market look severely limited. The 710 was released in 2014. I wouldn't spend more than about £60 on a PSU so a £50 gpu puts it in the same price bracket.

Outputs: Dual DVI-D / HDMI / VGA

If I were you I'd ditch the 9800 GTX completely and replace it with a cheap 2nd hand GTX 660/660ti/670. Should come with 2 DVI, hdmi and displayport for up to 4 monitors.
