PSU from NSK6500

I have a thread in the case part of the forum now, but it was more about the actual case and i did ask about the PSU, and have had some good replies.

But decided to make a thread here to try and get some more answers about the PSU, it's the 430w version

The system will have an e4300 and a 8600gt, with the intention of overclocking the e4300. Now i've had a mixture of replies in that thread, some saying the PSU will manage a mild overclock and the other saying it should manage it no problem. Now it's for my friend so i really want to make sure it's going to manage to power this system and overclock, as i'm worried it doesn't and i get blamed for it damaging the system.

So now we're faced with a dilemma of getting a seperate case and psu, but this will add a lot to the cost, which is already limited and is at it's max with intention of the NSK6500. So give me your opinions please!
 
The 8600GT isn't the most demanding card in the world and Antec make good PSUs, my money would be on no problems whatsoever. Obviously you could be unlucky and get a dud PSU but that could happen anywhere. :)

True, i appreciate that can happen but the worry isn't with powering the 8600gt but the overclocking of the CPU with that card.
 
Ok, just to make my meaning a bit clearer. I was simply pointing out that the 8600GT wasn't a demanding card and so shouldn't cause any issue with the power required for the rest of the system including the overclock. :)

Ah i see thanks, well i'll have a think about it and see what we think as he's ordering monday i think.

If you really wanted to buy a stand alone PSU then you can still pick up the NSK6000 which is the same as the 6500 model just without a PSU, but from the kit you listed I believe you will be fine just going with the NSK6500.

Yeah the reasoning of getting case was it had a cpu bring down price of both components, but if the PSU will be powerfull enough then we'll get that. Plus the case isn't too bad so if he wants to upgrade when he gets a job he can just get a new PSU.
 
Well should be ordering tomorrow/tues when my mate gets paid and we've been thinking that the 8600gt really isn't that great and it would maybe be worth stretching to the x1950 pro, now what do you think?

But the main problem is if we decide to do it, how will the PSU handle it and the overclock of the CPU. As the 8600gt wasn't really needing much power, but the x1950 pro is the opposite?

I still wouldn't worry in the least, the X1950pro is a more demanding card but you are still talking about a solid PSU from a good brand. I've just done a quick search of Case Central and Graphics Card sub-forums and I can't see anything directly in point but I'm pretty confident it will offer no problems at all. :)
 
I have built pc's for people using the NSK 4400 and 6500 cases with their respective psu's and they are of very good quality. In fact they are of better quality than many cases and seperate psu's i have used costing a good deal more. The psu's are highly efficient and quite heavy (heavy usually means good quality components), they are also very quiet.

To give you an idea of power draw the rig in my siggy (also using a highly clocked 4300) draws a max of 263w at the wall while gaming. Games include COH, GTR2, Race, Oblivion, Prey, DOW Trilogy, Quake 4 and Far Cry. I would say that the 430w version will be ample for the rig that you propose.
