Got a slight problem with my corsair tx650.

Basically the issue is this. When you turn power on from the mains, there is a pop sound and spark inside the psu (can't see spark, just the light it produces). Only happens if the pc has been turned off at the mains for 8+ hours or so as it normally does it only after I switch on after waking up.

Other issue is when you switch the pc on to use it, you can hear a small pop from the supply (no spark this time), this happens whenever you switch it on, it doesn't have to be off for X amount time.

Power supply doesn't seem to be effected by it, other than that everything is fine, but obviously it aint suppose to do it.

Any idea why it has started to do it? and any chance of an easy fix (still under it's 5 year warranty, so not opening it up).

Thanks.

From what I can gather is this is a common problem with the TX series PSU's. I'd have a talk to Corsair customer services, see what they have to say.

Doesn't seem like the TX series is that great this time around, I went for a TX550M and it immediately blew on first boot. Nice big spark and pop now it's dead.

:(.

Little disappointed with these supplies. This is not the first. First one I had died, no spark, just died one day. Went to power up and nothing and now this one is doing this.

Only went with them as everywhere was giving high write ups and they seem to be liked be users.

I would play it safe and buy another one If I were you, It doesn't sound too healthy and If it does go who know's what damage it could cause?

In the past I have had two Corsair PSU's blow on me, luckily for me it was only the PSU that was cabbaged. I think it was a faulty wall socket that made it happen though. Have you tried changing where you have the PC plugged in?

Yeah, forgot to say, I've tried different socket/cable, even a different room. Going to get on to corsair then, not paying out for another when this has 5 year warranty.

Thinking I might get this replaced, buy another psu and the sell the replacement corsair.

I think Corsairs/CWT's QA is pretty poor on these. If you look at some user reviews, seems a good 20% of people have had DOA or within 1 day problems.

I'm currently going for an RMA with OcUK for the Corsair but I have doubts I'll get a good one :(

This one has to go back to corsair I think. First one went to where it came from, but that was within one year. I think after that, it's to corsair.

I'm not sure there is any control. This one actually had a screw rattling around when it turned up. Managed to get it out through the grill. Was a screw with a little bit of warranty sticker on (not my sticker). Let it go, as it caused no damage, but did find it slightly odd at the time.
