PSU Good Enough?

Got a Corsair HX850W and was wondering if it was powerful enough for 3 overclocked GTX 470s and an overclocked i7?

Pushing it a bit far imo, would be ok for 2 x 470's, but not 3.

I woudn't have thought so, stick to 950w plus. SLI 580's is tight on a 850, so 3 470's should need more.

Yes, that'd work, but don't think you would get much graphical benefit over 2 from a 3rd 6870?

My next TV is going to have 120FPS capability. I've got 2 GTX 470s which is fine for 60FPS, but there's no way they'll cope with the higher rate of the new TV if I want to run high settings in new games.

6970's are a little over 200W each.

Add in all your other components, and overclocking, and you'd be pushing it.

I don't think HX850 can do 3 x 6970. Risky. It looks like HX series are usually dual-rail designs which doesn't seem to be able to do load-balancing between rails.
