Hi guys,

A friend of mine has just put together a gaming rig. Had some video card issues though. Artefacts and eventually not booting past BIOS.

PSU is a Corsair CX500 and the GPU is an XFX AMD Radeon 7870 HD DD Edition

The card has a 6-pin and 8-pin power requirement. This is a picture of the back of the PSU with the available connectors. It was connected to the GPU (via the connector in the bottom right of the picture) using an 8pin to 6pin & 6+2pin cable.

Wondering if how it was connected to the PSU could have been the issue or whether this should have been fine?

has he updated his mobo bios ?

i know with my 7950 and a newish board it still wouldnt boot until flashed mobo bios

Nope not updated the mobo BIOS.

It had booted a fair few times actually. However it started to hang quite a bit and then artefacts started appearing. Eventually it wouldn't get into Windows at all.....

Maybe a faulty card. I've had my share. 2 of them broke just after a few days. So you might need to RMA the card. Where did you get it at?

Yeah it's going through the returns process now. Just thought it was a bit odd that it worked and then didn't.

It was bought from a competitor so don't want to say for fear of the ban hammer!
