Hello guys.

I built a system about 7 months ago and my psu blew whilst playing Sleeping Dogs. I understand how and why (it was a crap PSU) Luckily it didnt take anything with it. I was just wondering if anyone could help me decide on a good PSU for my system? I'll give you all my specs. On a side note.. I used the Extreme PSU calculator and it told me i needed 414w. I believe this to be incorrect as my Video card requires 400w alone.

System Specifications:
CPU: AMD Phenom x4 Black Edition 955 3.2gz (not overclocked)
Memory: 2x4gb Gskill Ripjaw 1600mhz (Not Overclocked)
Video: 1x AMD Radeon 6950HD (Not Overclocked)
Motherboard: Crosshair Formula IV
Storage: 1x Corsair Force Series 3 120g SSD.. 1x Samsung 7200rpm 1TB
5x120mm fans (2 standard, 3 LED)

USB Devices: (usually always plugged in)
Mouse: Razer Naga
Keyboard: Roccat Isku
1x xbox 360 wired controller
1x PS3 controller

If you require anything else, please let me know :)

Thank you very much in advance for the help, your time is really appreciated!

My budget = Anything upto £80 (may consider going higher if reasons are supported, i just dont feel the need for more since i'm only running a single video card)

my comment stems from the fact most people vastly vastly over exaggerate psu requirements.

then say its for future proofing, failing to consider that as tech progresses, pcs are using less power,. not more :)

dont mind me

Yeah you're right James :) I tend to fret over nothing sometimes.. I guess i'm still a little shaken but mostly thankful the psu didnt take anything else with it.

Thanks for the support :)

What size case are using, I always try to reccomend modular PSU's since they are much easier to manage.

Currenty the Seasonic's are on preorder so if you plan to buy before they arrive check out any Corair PSU that IS NOT builder series.

Been running my system for ages on a 4yr old Antec 550W without any problems, so a nice new Seasonic 500W won't have any problems. Anandtech measured the power consumption while playing Crysis 2 as 298W and that's for the whole system, not just the graphics card.

I'm actually putting my Antec back in my rig because the Corsair GS700 is ridiculously noisy but I am probably going to go for one of these Seasonics myself.

ps. I am not changing the Antec Truepower 550W because it is underpowered, it is just getting a bit too long in the tooth. It's not 4yrs old, I remember I brought it with me from the States when I moved back, it's closer to 6 years old and in PSU terms that is definitely in the retirement bracket. :D

Hmm really? my current system at 100% load uses 500w, so i went with a AX750 from corsair because the psu is more efficient at around 50-60% load and also the fact the psu degrades over lets say a 5 year period, was i scared mongered into over kill?

Whats your system Ornatus?
If it was a single GPU setup then yes you were scare mongered and its most likely running rather inefficiently.
