couple of things I need some pointers on,
First up is a PSU tester, I need one and I'm not sure what to get. I have had a few 'weird' issues to fix on various PCs where they would power up but wouldn't POST, normally when a PSU fails it goes *BANG!* and lets off a dying curry fart, however I had two instances in the past few months where the PSU is 'half' dead (i.e its borked!) but it still powers up the fans and stuff.
I believe there is a PSU tester thingie for sale, simple to use just plug in some PSU cables and it gives u a green light or red light etc, but I'm wondering if I can do the same thing with a multimeter? Any ideas of how much the 'simple' PSU testers cost?
kk, next up I ran into a situation a few weeks ago with a system that was acting weird, after much head scratching and swapping things about I finally nailed it down to a 'faulty' rounded IDE cable, real pain in the bottom I tell you! Anyway once again I believe there is a tool that is able to test these things, just plug the cable in and get some indication to whether its working or not, how much are they and is there something like that for SATA cables also?
I need to get some of those little black boxes you often get OEM CPU's in, I'm not quite sure where you can buy them, I'm kinda thinking a jewelry shop or something like that?
I also need some anti-static bags (of different sizes) for storing random cards. motherboards etc in, I have quite a few but have never actually bought any but instead just using the leftovers from hardware i have bought new. What is there proper name? I think its something like ESD bags?
Do you think if I tap up Gibbo he may sell me some!
