I recently purchase a new Seasonic 850W PSU to go with my new i7 overclocked bundle but Im having a hell of a time with the PSU.

The first PSU when connected, lights the motherboard lights, but on hitting the power button the system and PSU fans start to spin up and then immediately cut out. The motherboard lights stay on but the system fails to POST. Using an old 600W PSU I could boot the system happily so I RMAd the new 850W PSU.

On reception of the 2nd PSU, I installed it, and the system booted fine...twice.

Now I get the same symptoms as the first PSU where on hitting the power button the fans start to spin then cut out. Very occasionally it seems to boot for about 20 seconds then cuts out again.

Again the i7 works happily with the old 600W PSU. So i tried the new 850W in a couple of other systems. In both a Q6600 quad core system, and an old AMD X2 4600+ the new PSU works fine.

So in summary, the new PSU works fine in all systems except my i7 rig, and all other PSUs Ive tried with the i7 rig (A 600W and 700W) work ok. Its just this one PSU in this one system.

I put the i7 rig back to stock settings to rule out any overclock shenanigins before starting any of this.

Any ideas whats up with the PSU? Can I RMA it if its working ok in two other systems? Im baffled by this....

Yes, I have the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 that came with the overclocked bundle, and it was the m12d 850W PSU that Im having trouble with. Like you I bought it for performance and supposed build quality. I find it rather strange that a supposedly reputable PSU like this fails to work with a motherboard in such a spectacular fashion but works ok in every other machine Ive tried it in

Do you have yours yet? Is it working ok if so?
