I think this is the correct section for PSU discussion. If not please feel free to report this so it can be moved..

Anyway, to the topic;

Today I got a new case and I fitted everything okay, however I have an issue that I never expected as it's not a massive case...

My motherboard is very old (Asus M2N68-AM) and has the power connections at the very top of the board (Picture here). My PSU is also fairly old and, for lack of a better word, crap.

Now my problem; The PSU power connections for the motherboard don't reach, so currently I have the PSU sat on top of a cardboard box inside the case. I leave my PC on 24/7 so I don't really want to leave it like this for long due to the quite obvious risks.

My dilema; I have just upgraded to 4GB ddr2 and a Phenom X4 955, on my AM2+ board. Money is very tight at the moment too.

If I replace the motherboard to get one with better placed connections, I will also need to get DDR3 ram, as I don't see the point in buying another AM2 board when I have that now, and it's very outdated.

If I replace the PSU, how can I be sure that the cable will be long enough? I don't want to buy one and then find out that I have the same issue.

Any feedback / suggestions / mockery is welcome.

Cheers.
