hi guys just a quick question, ok my stepson bought a pc of a friend of his, i7 setup with a crap gpu in it, so i had a spare gtx 480 lying around the house, so he mithered me for it, so i put in the 480, when he gets home he boots the pc up, all is fine goes on internet etc etc with no problems, he later decides to play forged aliance and gets about 5-10 mins into the game and hear a small pop and all the power goes off, so told him its most likely his psu thats gone bust, so today he gets one, installs it, all is fine until he fires up forged alliance and again the new psu goes pop, what could cause this, any help would be appreciated, cos i dont want him to get another psu for that to go pop, the only thing i can think of is that the tower is quite small and the gpu could be touching somewhere and shorting, but i thought that would affect the pc at all times not just when playing a game.

ok the original psu was a 600w, dont know the brand, the new psu is a 750w and also dont know the brand, like i say i only provided the gpu, the gpu worked fine in my pc in sli up until i swapped it for a 780, not 100% sure whic cpu other than its a 1366 i7 x58 i think, m/b does have triple channel memory but for some reason it only has 2 sticks in, i did tell him to get a third stick but this happened first, 1 hdd 1 dvd rom and stock intel fan

sorted it, he got another psu, and i installed it for him, and i noticed the gpu's mainboard was touching the metal part of a sata cable, the bit that secures the connection, so i put it into another sata port, i then installed the psu, so he either installed the psu incorrectly or it was the gpu touching the sata cable, anyway it working fine now.
