Hey guys,

I'm checking out some workstations at work, and the symptoms are as follows (there's no HDD in any of them):

1) Press Power ON - computer powers on for a time period of 1-8 seconds, then dies again
2) Repeated Power ON presses have no effect

If I remove the power cable, then SOMETIMES Power On has the effect described above.

PSU is a QTEC Gold 550W.

Pretty likely that its the PSU, no?

By the sounds of it, the PSU is broken :( I would say that it only works after you remove the power cable because the thermal reset resets itself then :)

Hah, I figured it out :)

I had 3 workstations, one AMD64, two P4 2.8.

The P4s had QTEC 400Watt PSU's, whilst the AMD64 had a QTEC550Watts.

The P4s run fine with the 550W PSU. The AMD runs fine with either of the 400W PSUs.

I guess the manufacturer messed this up well and proper then :D

Qtec don't actually manufacturer PSUs, they take a gold coloured box, bung in some gaurenteed to break (but colourful) fans, the more the better, then they throw a handful of electronic components at it from across the room, what ever sticks they call a PSU and then lie about its wattage rating.

I meant that the manufacturer of the PCs messed up....twice! Not only putting the wrong type of PSU in, but daring to put in QTec :p
