how safe is it to say put 3 HDDs on one psu wire or 3 HDDs and 1 dvd-writer. the psu in question is a hiper 580W. I had planned on daisy chaining some connections so I could connect 3 HDDs and 1 dvd-writer from 1 psu connection, to help manage my cables. my friend said this could blow the psu, is this so? on the psu aswell are:
opteron 146 @ 2.7 @ stock volts
2gb ballistix @ 2.8v
1 laing dcc pump
6800 agp card
3x 120mm fans
1 or 2 x 80mm fans

thanks

Well I have 4harddrives, including a Raptor on one cable on my Tagan 480W and its no problem. Keep an eye on how stable the voltages are, but that power supply should be able to cope with it no problem.

just to double check that this is ok:

wire from psu -> dvd-writer -> 30gb hdd -> 120gb hdd -> 30gb hdd
wire from psu -> 6800
wire from psu -> pump
wire from psu -> fan controller with 4x fans

thanks

Yeah, that looks fine, you got lots of power so it shouldn't struggle, again, just watch the voltages and stability
