Is this a potential problem then?

It is like a hissing electrical noise.
When I turn off the PSU from the switch at the back of it the noise goes away.

Has it always been like that? Sometimes PSUs and mobos can make noises like that and it's perfectly normal, so if it's all working properly under load I wouldn't worry too much. You may have to have a closer look to see exactly where it's coming from, might help narrow it down. PSUs sometimes keep the fan running after the machine is shut down to cool, could it be that at all?

I think it has as far as I can remember.

It is a little annoying when trying to sleep but doesn't cause any hardware problems.
I am the kind of geezer that doesn't have an analogue watch/clock in my room :)

It isn't a fan on the PSU I can't see anything spinning on there I shall look closer but I reckon it is coming from inside the PSU and it aint no fan I can see.
