I have recently got back into gaming and some of the newer games seem to freeze up on me. Normally 15-20min into a match the screen just freezes on a frame. I have had a look around and heard my PSU may not be strong enough to power what I am using. My specs are :

750W CIT PSU
AMD 1090T BE
Asrock M3A770DE
HSI HD5770
Arctic cooling Freezer Extreme
3x120mm fans
4x80mm fans
1 sata HDD
1 sata DVD drive.

I have had a look around and tried all kinds of different things and nothing seems to work. Seen some people saying it could be the PSU and wanted to check here before dishing out for a new one. Any help would be appreciated and as always thanks for you helps =) makes my life easier LOL.:)

I dont know really, my brothers pc runs a 5850, not powerful i know, but on a 430W Builder Series by Corsair.

Have you swapped it for a different, similar specced speed, PSU?

A Corsair PSU of any type is better than a CIT 750W PSU, they cost like £20.

A cheap PSU will never put out its stated wattage.

Dump that CIT PSU, I had one for 15 mins then it blew my mobo, never again will I buy a non branded PSU.

You'd expect that 40Amps of 12v would be sufficient to drive that system. It could be a ripple issue I suppose causing the crashes.

What I'd do is run something like Furmark/Kombustor etc to stress the graphics and watch for issues, then try a CPU loading program like Prime95 and look for issues and crashes.

What games are you having problems with? What are your temps like?

Crashing out of games could be a dozen things other than the PSU. Still might be worth considering upgrading the PSU but it'd be a shame if the problem was still there afterwards.

Medal of Honor and Battlefield Bad Company 2. I was having problems with crysis but changed my settings from advanced to high and that seems to have done the trick. Sadly that did not work for the other games.

As for my temps i believe CPU was around 50c and gpu I can not remember. Hard to tell as when my comp crashes i have to restart.

I have also run prime 95 for an hour or so and seen my CPU temps up to 60 with no problems. I have just run Kombuster with no problems and got these results : SCORE: 2910 points (50 FPS, 130000 ms) with a max temp of 53c .

I just ran the free version of 3d mark 11 and i got to Graphics test 4 and about mid way through these green lines took over my screen and it frooze. Had to use reset button to get it back on? I do not have another computer to try components in so trouble shooting is a bit hard for me :/ . I just dont get why i can play crysis 2 but moh and bfbc2 freeze up on me ??

Can't speak for MOH or Crysis (my game time on these is minimal) but BFBC2 is very hard on CPU and GPU on any system.

Green lines I think suggest a RAM issue with the graphics card, although I can't be sure of that. If dropping from Advanced to High in Crysis reduced the amount of GDDR that the game needs then this could make sense.

PSU problems tend to result in reboots and Blue Screens caused by poor voltage reaching components.

BFBC2 multiplayer does have a punkbuster issue when running graphics card monitoring programs such as MSI Afterburner, Rivatuner, CCC, Fraps, GPU-z, basically anything that checks the temperature or gpu usage. I doubt if single player has the same problem.

Hmm, maybe i will have to try a bit of single player tonight then. Wish i knew for sure it was the card as it is only 2 months old and i am sure it is still under warranty. Thanks for all your help guess i will have to contact the manufacturer and see what they say.
