PSU Mod Tool Help!

I bought a PSU mod tool kit for doing my cable braiding which arrived today, but i cant for the life of me get the ATX/PCI one to work properly.

Now im very sure im using the right tool, the one with two long flat pins. and i am putting it in the correct two sides of the connector. I have tried pushing the cable in as i push the tool in, and still nothing. I have tried different connectors and even some spares, it just can't budge anything.

I read the whole cable braiding tutorial and i feel pretty stupid posting this but this is crazy, am i missing something critical?

Try pushing the tool in, and the cable slightly firther in, then pull the cable out. They are a pain, and not really meant to be removeable. Just to check, the 2 sides are along the connector, so
ooooooo o oooo
ooooooo|o|oooo

|o| are the sides you need.
