PSU ......Modular or not ?

wont a modular PSU loose efficiency due to having sockets at the PSU end,
rather than a standard soldered connection ?

i'm thinking of the ``be quiet dark power pro 750W ``for a top end rig/single GTX 295......

and also, will 750w still be powerful enough next year, when a card more powerful than the 295 is released?

i need to get this right, before the end of this month

As for the power requirements, really would need to know the extact specifications, right down to the number of fans, or whether you'll be doing water cooling etc - calling it a 'top end rig' simply isn't enough.

Hiper M1000 Power 1000w........There is this, it got 4 good reviews and one poor one...but it's only 100 quid.

yes, my guess is non-modular is more efficient.... but modular will still be excellent for us. ..... non-modular does have quite a few dangling cables and does look sruffy... my OCZ 600 has quite a few floating around inside... you could cut these off and heat shrink onto the ends of each to prevent short circuits..

my guess is that 750 W is well powerful enough, but i need to make sure

avoid the Hiper pls.

The PC Power and Cooling 750W is the best one, so far mentioned here.

Bequiet Dark power is over priced, get a Corsair HX 750W if you are looking in that price range.

the pc power and cooling is bright red ...i'm not having something like that inside my case

it looks like either the corsair or the be quiet...best bet is the corsair 750 modular

i have the OCZ STEALTH X STREAM 600W and it's excellent, i'd say the OCZ is as good...it's got an excellent reputation....

BUT OCZ dont go above 700W in Modular format..... only above as a normal PSU, and i'm after modular; so this rules out OCZ, because if so i'd get another OCZ

i cant answer that can i ....because i'm not you, but the OCZ is very impressive, mine runs dead silent and freezing cold.

now the ``be quiet`` is a better colour match for my pc than the Corsair.... it'll look better, but the corsair is cheaper/ more efficient ...even so, the ``be quiet`` will be well good enough.... because it's still top quality...............i'm getting a bit fussy now, time for a cigarette break!

just seen them, right; lets take a really good look

OCZ Z-Series 850w Modular...now that looks very nice and it's supposed to be top quality only, over 90% efficient and 940W peak, ....but maybe a bit too expensive at 130 quid..the Corsair 850M is almost 20 quid cheaper

this is going to be a very hard decision to make, i just cant make my mind up

DONT BE .........right you, get the Corsair 750 modular...its only 99 quid and that's excellent

for me it's different, because my pc spec is higher and might be higher still by next august, because i might go crazy at the last minute...so i've got to anticipate this right now and choose something more powerful than i need

so i might go for this OCZ 850M or the corsair 850 M....it just depends on how much money i have next month...of these two; i have no worries that either will be perfect for me...FACT!

PSU first.....then the LIAN case... then the CPU.....then SATA....then BLU-RAY.....then nothing till next july.

save all the money and buy when everything is cheaper next year?..........yes, but i'm bored and i want to start fooling around with a new build strait away...like all you lot, i want to mod, start my own modding thread etc........sod waiting another year

i wont be able to hide the excess wiring easily on mine, because i'm going to rebuild the interior to be more open plan and simplistic.... it'll be basically an empty case, with the fans/SATA/BLU-RAY mounted on clear perspex...probably



basically i'll be removing the existing fan mounts/sata/hard drive and replacing them with perspex, but in the same position as they are now, the top left hand side will all be removed

you are bound to loose efficiency and create resistance; by using connectors, rather than a soldered connection...this is a fact....but you might not loose that much

even with a soldered connection you have to be careful too...i.e you should always ``tin`` the ends of bare wires first, before you solder onto a circuit board etc.

most top PSU manufactures sell both.........you'd probably loose 1% efficiency, that's nothing... dont forget that that these 750W PSU's will handle a GTX 295 easily.....let alone an 850W.

the only problem any of us will ever have.... is if we buy (and none of us ever will)...........a crappy 50 quid PSU, but these top end PSU's are fine...all of them.

hey i got a real big question..


i am thinking to get a OCZ ModXstream 700w but stomped on a query...

i will have

Antec 902 with 4 case fans
corei7 with stock fan
4980 XT
Asus p6t
partiot viper
DVd drive
HDD drive

will there be enough cables for it all?

what if not...it's goign to be a pain in the *** to get a cable....

EDIT What type of cable does the 902 have for fans?

yes........you'll have a spare graphics card connection and HDD drive connections too...and a few others as well
