PSU MSI or ASUS

The asus are good units and made by seasonic but there overpriced, not much reviews on the msi units but backed with a 10 year warranty would give me confidence buy.

Why just those 2 makes ?

What size.

The last two power supply I bought had coil whine at idle and it got on my nerves
Seen your other thread about your corsair, try disabling one of the c states in the bios. This will increase idle vlotage but mite elimante the coil whine. Would sugest you do a bit of research if you consider doing this.

Hi there, I have tried to disable c states, this doesn't improve the noise at all I have tried running benchmarks to give the PSU a good run in, nothing seems to help even when I adjust the voltage it still idles with noise even in Bios it was driving me insane I can hear from across the room if I left the just idle not doing anything

Your going to have to send it back and try a third

12 year warranty on this.

I was considering this one to be fair but haven't used anything phanteks before and not sure on their stuff, is this something you'd recommend and purchase yourself?

I would use all that we have spoken about even the corsair, youve just been extremely unlucky.

Was your first psu a corsair ?

ASUS is made by Seasonic and that PSU should be identical in terms of design and performance to the equivalent Seasonic models.

MSI PSUs are made by CWT which is responsible for corsairs low end PSUs. So I would probably avoid them.

Ah okay, CWT make the Rm850x which is the one I had the issue with.

The Phanteks one is also made by seasonic

That phanteks revolt pro is a seasonic unit as well. It is basically a focus gold.

If you had issues with Corsair RM units then you can try the seasonic ones. However I think coil whine can potentially affect all manufacturers. Cos those particular components aren’t made by CWT or Seasonic....and they can go into both company’s PCB.

if you are looking at those cost for PSU maybe you can start thinking about Corsair AX series. Again that’s seasonic PSU

Availability is the issue there. I can get the Asus THOR 850W for £199 which is a seasonic unit, or the phanteks 850w revolt pro for £125 but the asus has more reviews and testing based reviews and is also platinum rating what do you think?

Platinum is nice. If you can afford it why not. Corsair HX is a CWT but highly rated. You can get the HX850 around £180 mark.

anyway these are the choices atm

I just bought the revolt pro myself. As I cannot justify £200 on a PSU, I am not that well off.

It’s a seasonic focus gold. All the inners look identical. So I can’t imagine it has any issues. Anyway gonna be getting it Friday and see how it goes.

seasonic only offers 12yr warranty on their PRIME range of PSUs. so for this revolt pro to have 12yr is pretty special. also the revolt X (Seasonic Prime PX OEM) has 12yr matching the seasonic

I suspect the reasons for lack of phanteks review is probably A) it is not a halo product unlike the ASUS and MSI ones so reviewer wont get as much viewing or clicks onto their site or channel B) it is a Seasonic OEM, the same units have been reviewed to death on internet GX750 GX850 PX1000 PX1200 so those reviewers (not many) who reviews PSU dont feel the need to review these again.
