Would a corsair hx1000 cut it ?

Also, the Rampage II places the 1st 2 gpu's right beside each other with not even a mm to spare. Could this cause potential throttling with a pair of 5970's ? I know at the moment with 2x5870's, my 2nd 5870 runs 10 degrees cooler as a result of the gpu placing, and putting a gpu in the 3rd pci-e slot is not an option as it's on the edge of the motherboard and you need an 8th pci slot on your case to accomodate a dual cooler.

Corsair should do the job, the cards have ports on the rear, if you can get some cool air directed in them, that should somewhat compensate for the lack of air the top card gets when in xfire.

Bear in mind that when the 5970 hits 91c it will throttle the gpu to 550mhz from what ever it was previously.

This makes me think, 2 of them close together stock cooling = bad idea.

Thanks to those who pointed out I will need a new screen and what I have now is sufficient. I realise that :D Since myself and a mate of mine built pc's about 8 weeks ago we have become addicts once again and want more. Didn't think it would happen and could fall off the wagon after a hiatus of almost 2 years :p Of course, my next upgrade isn't going to happen until the end of April next year as that is when I will have a significant amount of cash. But it's good to plan ahead.

I was just wondering about the 1kw psu and if it will handle quadfire. Some people have said it would. I looked into a build on youtube and 1 guy actually ran 4x5870's on the Asus supercomputer board and ran into psu issues with an older toughpower 1500w, which is why he updated to the equivalent wattage strider with 30amps across each rail. I assume the toughpower only having 20amps on 2 of the 4 12v rails was the cause of his shutdowns when running 4x5870's. The HX1000 was 2x40amp rails so hopefully would be enough for 2x5970's.

Also someone pointed out about the proximity of the 2 5970's on the Rampage could be an issue which is why I regret not going for the P6T Deluxe which more optimal spacing. Right now with 2x5870's, there is a 10 degree delta on the bottom card, so I'd imagine it would be more pronounced with the 5970's. An Asus supercomputer X57 or EVGA 4 way sli board would sort out that though.

.........i would do ANYTHING to get £500 for 1 5970...and me being a "want the best" person i wouldnt bother spending £500 on another 5970. Id probly buy 2 30inch monitors and max every game + eye infinity.

Ill be really ****ed off if somebody just went and bought 4 5970s just for the hell of it and had a 19inch standard monitor.

Thanks! Luckily no partner to justify stuff to :D However it did take me about 6 months to get the cash together to build current build. I'm now trying to enjoy it. However temptations like watercooling, corsair obsidian, 5970's, more screens, Fermi, SSD's etc.. are going to get the better of me in the next 6 months I reckon :)

Good man its your cash:D

You absolutely do not need 2 5970s for 1920x1200, in fact a single 5970 is overkill for that resolution.

2 right next to each other is going to have soem problems, you'd probably need watercooling on them.

You could spend that additional £500+ on some really neat toys like SSDs or some really nice perhipherals or just more games.

Sounds to me like you worship at the altar of tech!

Given me an idea for a new benchmark though: Time taken to grill a cheese toastie between a pair of graphics cards.
