Hi

I have to RMA my Antec 650 Truepower as its making a right racket when on load and its making lots of high pitched noises especially when the pc is turned off .

So im after a 650w thats not got a PWM fan!,as im fed up with this PSUs fan being too loud on load, maybe its just a bad one i dont know as this is my first PSU with a PWN fan i think.

So i have these:

Not sure which one to get as i dont want another noisy PSU and i dont want any PWN fan.

Why don't you place a wanted ad in the MM, rather than buying new? Can get honest opinions on the noise levels too.

As for the models you list, I am not certain about either of them. What I can tell you is that I have used 2 Corsairs (520 and 620) and my Zalman, and all 3 are extremely quiet.

I think the trick is to have a unit that is more than adequate for your needs, and then it won't need to operate at or near it's limit, and hence should remain cooler/quieter :)

The XFX pro, because the GX range reviews show it to be whack.

Yes thats the one im leaning towards, just read the GX specs again and its using a PWN anyway.

However come to think of it,the warranty will prob be a joke with XFX.

The xfx is made by seasonic just like the Antec new truepower is, I would actually guess its internally the same/shares a lot of similar parts, just with captive cables.

I really should start a thread on this. I RMA'd one with this problem then RMA'd the replacement for a refund due to it also suffering. Someone posted on the OcUK shop comments saying they'd had two which did this. Quite a few reports of other people complaining of this from the feedback on the large US retailer sites.

There aren't any other PSUs I've looked at that have more than an isolated complaint about standby whine.

Thinking of buying a Corsair HX 650 but I balk at the £100 price tag and the fact it is also a Seasonic design.

The Coolermaster Pro Gold in either 600 or 700W flavour has caught my eye with them being 80 Plus gold PSUs. Not really had a good look for feedback on them yet.

Yeah ive since got an RMA with OcUk sorted and have ordered the XFX pro 650w which arrives tomorrow, the noise when on load is driving me mad

That looks like a pretty nice unit. Shame I was exposed to the pleasures of modular cabling inside my awkward P180 case.

Got myself a Corsair HX 650 arriving tomorrow though I very nearly bought the Coolermaster I mentioned.

If anyone is thinking of buying one of these:

The packaging and build quality is very impressive as are the reviews, lets hope i have better luck than the Antec TruePower.

Have also registered for the extended 5 Yr Warranty which is probably pretty pointless considering XFXs reputation with warrantys/RMAs,but this PSU has had such good reviews ive took a chance.

Will be installing sometime tomorrow and will be sending the Antec Hoover, sorry TruePower:D back for RMA on Monday.
