PSU noise

I have an Antec truepower 750 watt. I recently bought a 570GTX graphics card.

When opening a benchmark a noise comes from the PSU that sounds like a mechanical hard drive in constant use, but maybe a bit louder than a hard drive

Is this usual?

The 570 uses 2 x 6 pin from the PSU. Its never made this noise before but then its never needed to use the extra 12V rails

Its definately not the GPU. The GPU sounds loud when on load, the PSU makes this noise as soon as the benchmark starts. Like its upping the voltage or something

I put my head inside my case and the noise is from right at the bottom where the PSU is

I fired up GTA4 and it started making a screaching noise that was quite high pitch and kept changing slightly. It didnt sound good

What do I do as I have not had a problem with it until using a more powerful graphics card

I bought it from here on 22 Feb, 2011. Should I contact Ocuk or Antec?

This thread pretty much sums it up.

Noises are on GTA4 loading screens and heaven benchmark. The guy who I bought my 570 GTX off didnt have these noises and he had a different PSU

Should I RMA this OcUK for a replacement? I really dont fancy leaving it in my system if its going to either break equipment that costs £££s or blow up

That sound is probably coil whine, when there a certain load on it.

Yeah that whine happens a lot when you have a powerfull video card and and a 3d game menu that runs way beyond 500 fps, causing the video card to draw quite a lot of power while it doesnt need to.

The game that does it the worst is Postal 2, without vsync on i can hear my psu whine, with a very high pitched tone. Gta 4 loading screens without vsync does it as well, but not that loud.

Its pretty annoying but doent bother me too much. However it it blows up and takes a load of components with it then I wont be happy at all
