Hi, sorry for yet another of these threads, should be quick and painless though :D
Im looking to buy...

Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Samsung SH-S203PBEBN 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter
Lian Li PC-A71B Aluminium Tower Case - Black
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
OCZ 8GB (4x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Quad Channel Platinum Low Latency XTC Series DDR2

And was wondering if my Hiper 580W PSU is still up to the task of running this (plus 8 hard drives)

Pc will be used for gaming, photoshop, some video rendering/encoding and looking to OC in future.

Thanks in advance.

They blow up :| News to me! I've been looking for an excuse to get a nice new Corsair PSU, but thought the Hiper would be up to the task.

Seems silly to risk an expensive new build for the cost of a new psu, but if it was easily able to cope I wouldn't bother...

Try doing a search for exploding Hipers. There are loads of posts. It even happened to me a couple of years ago.

Will definitely be up to scratch on the power side of things. But as suggested already try searching for the infamous Hiper blow thread a lot of unhappy people there. If you are looking for a reliable PSU try something like the corsair HX 520W :)
