PSU on the way out?

Hey all. I've been having a few issues with my PC recently and I'm wondering if it could be the PSU starting to die.

The PSU is a Corsair 750W HX 80PLUS Gold from 2013 and has done really well for me, but it's had a lot of use in those 11 years, powering two main builds and four different GPUs over that time.

Current build has an i5 12400, 32GB DDR4, 7900XT, and four SATA SSDs. Vetroo V5 CPU cooler and a Fractal Define R4 case with standard fans plus one extra.

The PC mostly seems to work fine, including gaming (although rarely for more than an hour at a time lately due to limited time), however it often won't wake from sleep properly or won't restore an image if I switch one of the displays off and back on (it's connected directly to an LG OLED through HDMI and to another LG OLED via a Sony AVR through a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter). It usually takes a hard reset to get back into Windows once the display goes. It's particularly annoying as it's connected to displays in two rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, and I've also been having trouble with the USB devices downstairs becoming less reliable - not sure if due to power supply or possibly the USB extension cable that's been routed through the walls since 2011, or the USB hub failing.

It hasn't failed while I've been actively doing anything on the PC. It's just turning displays off and on or waking from sleep that seems to cause the problem at the moment.

I'm leaning towards simply replacing the PSU anyway due to its age, although it would still be helpful to get some thoughts on whether the behaviour sounds like it could be related to the unit failing.

Any recommendations for a good replacement PSU would be great. Probably up to 1000W to give some headroom if I end up with a more power-hungry CPU and/or GPU in the future.

Any help would be appreciated!

Doesn't sound like a PSU issue more like a bios setting or windows.

Do you have the latest bios for your motherboard?

I hadn't updated my BIOS for a while so I've now done so, with unfortunately no change in the behaviour.

As far as I can tell, I've disabled all USB selective suspend options to try and avoid the USB devices becoming unresponsive by getting stuck in a suspended state, and I disabled the integrated graphics just in case it was somehow trying to revert to them. Power settings are for the PC, displays and drives to never go to sleep unless I press the sleep button.

The behaviour started a few weeks ago, and the hardware hasn't changed since I added the 7900 XT about a year ago. I'm not sure if a clean Windows install might change anything.

I use Display Fusion to manage the multiple displays and it generally works very well, although the keyboard shortcuts don't work to restore any image once the screen goes blank as described, and neither does Windows+P. Even the reset button on the PC case doesn't seem to force a reset, so I need to hold down the power button to force a shutdown.

I'd be leaning toward BIOS, display cables or display driver problems for the wake. Have you checked event viewer for the time it fails to resume?

That sounds more like a BIOS problem.

That said, there's no harm in replacing the PSU at the age it is.

I hadn't checked event viewer until you suggested it. I've spent the last hour or so trying various fixes to warnings and errors.

Started with OVRServiceLauncher as it had several warnings and errors and came up with quite a few similar symptoms for other people online, losing display and USB devices. I tried updating the Oculus software as I haven't used it for a long time and saw no change. Uninstalled it and still no change in behaviour, although no more warnings.

Also saw some errors caused by Sunshine, so I removed that from startup. No changes.

There were also some GameInput errors. Found a guide to deal with those and they have stopped, and I managed to briefly get a display back on the TV via the AVR (first time in a couple of days) along with the USB devices working again.

Put the PC to sleep and then couldn't wake it with USB devices as normal. The case power light also now flashes in sleep mode when it used to switch off. I've run out of time for troubleshooting for this evening, although seem to be making some progress and hopefully will find a BIOS setting to sort the USB waking. Thank you for your suggestions, I haven't used Event Viewer for so long it didn't even occur to me!

Will probably do a clean Windows install soon too.

FYI: if you have high draw USB devices, make sure that you're arranging them on your USB headers/hubs in a way that isn't likely to overload them. Later version ports can draw more power and keep in mind that they're often shared, so if you connect two high draw devices to one hub, it could cause you problems.
