Ok been reading a lot about psu's and the 4870X2 and it has got me thinking about whether mine will be ok. I have a 700w kingwin mach1 psu and when i get the 4870X2 i will be running that with a Q9450 and 8 gig of ram with 3 hd's and two dvd burners. So simple question will i be ok or do i need to get a new psu as well as the gfx card. All help appreciated :).

Thanks for the fast response need to know so i can decide how nice i will need to be to wife when the card statement comes in :D.

That lot is about 500W worth with all guns blazing. A decent 700W gives plenty headroom.

I'm running a similar spec - E6750, P35, 4850 with a stack of HDDs etc on a 600W PSU. Plug in energy meter shows about 230W under load, 180W on idle so you'll be fine.

Now a 9800GX2 would probably be a different matter :D

mine is only a 700w psu and so far seems to be up to the job:D

Like you I was a little concerned if 700w would be enough at first. A couple of weeks ago on the release of the 4870x2 I fitted one in guys pc running a QX9650 @3.8 and 4 hard drives 2 dvd burners and that was using a Coolermaster Real Power 620w and his has also been ok so far as well. I think like everyone else you should be ok;)

Never heard of that PSU make until I looked up some reviews. They seem to rate it quite well so it would be a "true" 700w unlike some others which don't actually give that (and have bad rails as well).

It will be more than plenty.

Thank you all for the info has put my mind at rest. i guess it is one of the bad sides about reading up on things too much you tend to start seeing problems where there won't be any. Again thank you all :).
