hey quick question i need help with:)

I got a neo2 plat mobo with a 3500+ was thinking of going to PCI-E with a 7600GT from my 6600GT AGP.

me question is my psu is currently a 20 pin, can i get an adapter that will allow my current psu to work with the PCI-E mobo's and with the PCI-express graphics cards??

Yes you can, you need a 20-24pin adapter for the motherboard and a 4-6pin adapter for the graphics card which you can get here. It will obviously help if you have a decent PSU to begin with as otherwise you might find it doesn't provide enough stable power :)

Hi,

I agree you can do that, but like said you might want to consider a new PSU, these modern PCI-E cards seem to drain power. On my rig I had to replace a 450W (decent) PSU for a 600W variant as used to start up for about 4 seconds and die due to the fact my old PSU wasn't providing sufficient output.

Cheers

Ill bear it in mind, although my psu is a 550W variant, and i was only going to put in a 7600GT from ocuk for £99 and the board £50 ULi jobby :)

So what was the result - was your old 550w psu able to power your new components? I ask because I am also considering going the same route, ie. using my old power supply on a new motherboard and pci-e video card.

A 450W would have easily managed a Radeon X1300.
