is there any difference in output with the ports of a psu , other than the different components they power?

Not really. These days we don't really need to worry about balancing rails or anything as PSUs have used one single voltage converter that is then artifically split into rails.
As long as you don't somehow shove 12v into a 3.3v component, and this shouldn't generally be possible, then select ports whichever way you wish.
