Hi all,

Just putting my first custom water loop together and wanted to idiot check my psu is up to the job.

It's http://www.seasonicusa.com/m12.htm the 700 watt version.

My system is:
intel 990x
24 gb ram (6 sticks)
2 x gtx660 ti
2 x ssd
2 x 1gb 7200 sata hard drives
2 x dvdrw (although I may just go with one...)
Xspc d5 pump
7x noise blocker pro pl2 120mm fans
Aquero lt fan controller

I did put all this into the extreme psu calculator and it came up with a minimum psu power of 630watts and recommended 650'ish, so in theory my 700 watt should be fine, I just wonder if all the rails are appropriate.

The reason I ask is I did a initial test run of my loop with dionised water to leak test then do some basic performance tests and I noticed that under high CPU load like prime95 I seem to have psu squeal. I've definitely get squeal from the gfx cards under load but thought when they are idling they weren't, so it does seem to be the psu as well.

I could go out and get a new more powerful psu but after the vast amount I've spent on the water cooling I'd rather not just yet. It may be that the psu and gfx have always squeeled but until the water cooling I couldn't hear it over the fans?

All advice appreciated!

Sorry, should also mention the CPU is at 4.5ghz at 1.45v currently on initial overclock runs on the water loop (maximum core temp reached under load was 55 degrees).

Your current PSU will be fine.

Are you sure its coming from the PSU (daft question I know), when I had my i7 920 setup the motherboard chipset did like to be herd.

Thanks for the response, I thought it was probably fine but didn't want to pop some very expensive components.

I'm fairy sure it's the psu, it's right at the bottom of the case so nowhere near the chipset really and sound certainly seems to be coming from there. I did wonder if it was just the sound from the gfx cards being reflected off the psu, but it's weird it only happens under CPU stress testing (might also happen under gfx stress testing but hard to tell over the squeal from the gpu's).

This does appear to be the downsides of a nearly silent water cooling loop, all the new and exciting noises you can hear from components you never heard above the fan noise before!
