I ordered a PC for a mate, but thinking back on it; the PSU might not have been powerful enough (it all arrives tomorrow).

520w Corsair for a Q6600, 5 HD's, dominator and 8800gtx.

I put the numbers into 1 website and it said 470w requred, but idk isnt that a bit low?

And what happens if you dont have enof power?

If you don't have enough power it won't be stable or it won't run, in the case of a quality PSU such as the Corsair no damage will be done. You do have to remember that the PSU calculation websites take worst case scenario e.g. full load and often a bit extra, this doesn't often happen in real life and they aren't 100% accurate to begin with. :)

5 hard disks might be pushing it when starting up - if there's an option in your BIOS to stagger spin-up then definitely enable it (there rarely is though). Otherwise, it should manage fine.

Do you reckon, having all that load on a lower wattage PSU will reduce its life? I dont know, I'm just wondering. . . .

Cheers,

Mate 520w of one of the highest quality psus around. All of a sudden people think omg i need a 1000w psu for my celeron rig!! just because they are available.

Don't worry for that spec the Corsair should be more than enough.

thanks :)

ill let you know tomorrow if it was enof, thanks at top poster too for reassuring me that it's unlikely anything will explode if it's not powerful enough :].
