Recently rebuilt my pc over the space of a few months.

Here is what I have

Asus x99 deluxe mobo
16 gig corsair vengence (4 x 4 sticks) ddr4
Silverstone Strider Gold Evolution 1200W PSU
i7 5930k
NZXT kraken x60 cpu water cooler
2 GTX Titans
2 hdd
1 ssd
1 standard monitor
1 samsung 4k monitor

Most of the hardware ive had for just over a month with the exception of the 5 month old PSU and the 2 titans and 4k monitor which are around 20 days.

The PSU was working fine with my very old mobo and cpu phenom II both around 5 years old. no problems at all.

And it seemed to be working okay with my new build as well untill I switched to windows 8.1 when I got the 2 titans and the 4k monitor as I wasnt happy with the scaling options on windows 7 for my dual monitor setup.

I dual boot windows 7 and 8.1 and everything still seems to run fine on windows 7 but every day when I turn my pc on for the first time in windows 8.1 the pc will reboot after around 10mins once. Looking in the event viewer on windows 8.1 I find that the errors are related to power.

I was thinking that it was down to a newly released motherboard and driver issues so thought after time it will sort itself out. But now the issue seems to be getting worse.

I was playing a game and the pc crashed on me yesterday. On the reboot I got a wanring that power supply surges were detected during the previous power on. Asus Anti Surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply unit.

I googled the problem and I got the impression the Asus anti surge is a bit too over sensative, so decided to carry on using the pc and to keep an eye on things.

Later on I was watching a film and went through to make something to eat. When I came back to the pc the kraken x60 was running at full speed and both monitors were blank. For the remainder of the night I couldnt get the pc to work at all. Not even to the mobo boot menu. Just blank screens.

Tried turning it on this morning and eventually managed to do so after several attemps but upon boot up I got the Anti surge warning again.

So now im trying to figure out what to do.

Is it a PSU problem? Or is it a motherboard problem? Or is it windows 8.1? As it doesnt happen at all on windows 7.

Any advise would be appreciated. Going out to work in 20mins so wont be able to reply for a few hours.

Thanks.

Edit : Also forgot to say I had problems with the 24 pin power cable. 1 end is 24 pins and the other is 20 + 4. Due to problems trying to fit the 20 + 4 into the mobo I had to put that end into the PSU with the 24 pin into the mobo. Could this be the issue?
