My mates PC went pop the other day, checked the PSU and it was faulty so I ordered a new one

FSP Sparkle ATX-400PNF 400W ATX2.0 PSU (CA-006-SK)

plugged in the new PSU and nothing, so i tried it on my PC and the PSU is fine. next I tried my Tagan in my mates pc and that started spinning over.

Its weird, this Sparkle PSU just will not work in my mates old system, I have tried reseating the CPU, removing the motheboards from the case with no cards attatched and nothing. any ideas please because is doing my nut in

his PC is

AMD 2500
MSI KT6 mobo
Radeon 9700pro

Very strange.

The only thing i can think of is the power lead, but you had yours working in his PC to, so i'm confused on that part.

Perhaps he could buy the same PSU that you have.

Really strange one.....

swaping PSUs isnt really any option, I would have to send the one he has just bought back to OCUK and there is noting wrong with it. I have put it it into my pc and have left it on running tests for an hour now. no issues at all.

when I said my Tagan worked on his system, what I did was placed just mobo on an anti staic bag, with just CPU and memory in it and pluged in the PSU. no case headers etc. but as soon as I switched on the Tagan PSU the cpu fans started spinning etc.

tried this with the sparkle PSU and nothing, its just weird, although to be honest without the case power button connected I wouldnt have thought the PSU would have kicked into life anyway ?

just wondering if it could be the old chieftec case, maybe the power button has gone ? or the mobo header connectors.

there is no way I can be arsed stripping down my case though. it took me ages to get the cabling spot on :p

I had this situation with a colleagues computer though we are not talking the spec sys you have there, but it was all down to the psu manufacture as the psu went pop it was 220w psu (very small indeed) so ordered another one also an fsp sparkle 440w or something, that didn’t work in that system also... in the end went bought one from ocuk (Enermax) and boom all worked :P so my theory is get an Enermax

surely though a brand new sparkle PSU should work with ALL pcs, after spending out £40 inc P&P from OCUK on a new PSU, I dont think spending another amount of dosh on another new PSU is a work around.

I cant see OCUK accepting it back, because the thing does work.

maybe a email to there tech support is in need. iv tried everything bar putting the sparkle and my mates mobo in a new case.
