PSU Problem?

hi there,

Having a few problems with the old computer this morning.

I have installed a new motherboard which was a P5b and noticed several problems with it so took it out and replaced it with my old gigabyte DS3.

When I try and push the power button on my case the cpu fan and one of my neons start up for approximately one second then turn off. This problem I had with both the P5b and DS3. Now the power supply is an antec noisemaker 475w and has been stable for quite some time. I tried to start the psu by shorting out the pins but again the fan at the back of it fires up for about 1 second then shuts off.

Now to me this sounds like a classic case of a psu on its way out but I thought I would ask the experts.

System is
C2D 6300
DS3
4gb Corsair RAM
POV 8800GTS 320mb

Thanks for any help

**Edit**

Just tried it again the psu powers up the system and and no problems and about 30sec later the computer just turns itself off and will not turn back on again.

Sounds like the classic on off on off DS£ problem.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS?

Also try with a single stick of RAM

Is your system overclocked?
