Got a new build and there is a strange sound coming from the power supply, but i dont know if its a fault or what.

The DVD drive is being changed as that is faulty, but i dont think that is affecting the psu.

The sound is a quiet, very high pitched tone, which ( to my knowledge after opening the case while its on) us coming from the psu. It is quiet, its the kind of noise which is like a dog whistle, but not as high pitched so you can hear it.

I shut the computer down while the case was open, and as the psu fan was spinning, but slowing down, the noise wasnt there. This makes me believe it is something to do with the psu itself, as the fan didnt seem to be the main culprit.

Thanks

Could be what's known as coil whine. If its the Corsair in your sig, you could RMA it but that's not cheap if its older than 12 months old & Corsair could say that's not a fault.

Well i got the parts shipped through a shops supplier, and the shop built it for me. They said i could get a replacement if its annoying me, however because the sound is so high pitched my dad, and the guys in the shop couldnt even hear it, but i think they are familliar with what it is.

What should i do?

Is there any way of sorting it out without sending it back? I heard this high pitched noise is common for switch mode psus. I am worried if i get a new one the same problem could be there or worse.
