When i turn the switch on my power supply to on it starts to make a really loud burning noise where it sounds like it's frying something. I turned it off then turned it back on again and went back to normal. It's not the first time this has happened but it was never this bad.

The odd time as well i would turn my psu on and it just doesn't turn on the pc, i have to try several times for about 5-10 minutes to finally get it working again.

My psu is a Corsair cx 500, should i just replace the PSU as it looks like it could end bad lol.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 500w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020059-UK) £55.99
Total : £65.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I would just replace it, dont risk it blowing or catching fire killing your whole PC.

Don't replace it with another low-end Corsair unit. Here's a selection of good units.

Thanks when i was buying it i was a first time pc buyer so i thought this Corsair was a pretty good psu at the time over 3 years ago. I'm planning on building a new pc in a year any way so i can just reuse the psu i buy now tbh. Thanks for the help guys.

Dependant of what type of system you planning on getting consider what wattage PSU you purchase. All the above are good PSU's, if you planning a gamers/overclocking machine with more then 1 GPU you would be better spending a little more now and having a psu that will cope with that.

Ye definitely! I know so much more now about pc's than i used to back then. I'm building my 1st system as well for my bro on Monday so it's all looking good. I'm not a hardcore pc gamer, i only play really PC exclussive titles like WoW and DOTA 2 so i have a fair idea of what system i'll be getting and what PSU i'm going to need. I got him a Superflower 650w on a special deal last week a lot of people recommended it to me.

Bad bews my PSU just blew and i think it might have taken my mobo with it. I said i will change the power cable as this one is quite old and it might be the problem. I turned it on with the new cable and it fried itself possibly doing more damage to my mobo/cpu. Going to order a new psu and hope it's problem solved. If my components are broke it's not a big loss as it is only an Athlon ii system for light gaming.
