PSU problem

Hello all,

switched on today, psu is making a load humming noise, overpowering all noise in my PC.

Before this it has been completely silent.

Had it for roughly 1 year, Corsair CS550M.

Any ideas? I had a look inside and it looks fairly dusty. Could this be the problem? Should I try a compressed air cannister?

Thanks

I'm running it with an i5 4690k (not overclocked)
GTX 960
8gb ram
win 7 pro

I have tried compressed air on the fan and it seemed to solve the problem temporarily.

However last night he psu started to make lots of noise as if it was about to take off.

Now this morning it's completely quiet again. It seems to come and go..

Any ideas?

Does this happen sporadically or specifically such as when you start playing a game?

Shouldn't be an issue with load really, if the problem persists I would look at getting it replaced under warranty.

seems to happen sporadically. Sometimes when playing a game, sometimes when just on the internet.

Sometimes its quiet for two days then it starts backup.

The inconsistency made me think it could have been a dust issue but I've recently blown the psu out with compressed air and the problem still arises.

Update - when the PSU is quiet the fan is NOT spinning!

I've turned it the other way up so I can see it now and the fan is moving a cm, as if it's trying to spin but doesnt.

It seems that when it does randomly spin it makes the loud noise I mentioned before.

I'm suprised as I thought I would this psu would keep me going for a while. Looks like I need to replace it, unless there is a solution to this
