Morning all.

It seems that a long standing problem that I have had with my PSU is fast getting worse.

Last week as a few of you will know I built a new i7 system. The only case component that made it out of my old C2D system was my BeQuiet Dark Power 650 Pro.

For the preceding couple of months, the system had several problems, but one of them was an annoying reluctance to boot up properley, which in retrospect could only have been the PSU, but the nature of the problem was very odd. Needless to say, that after 4 days of operation in the new i7 system, the problem has reared its ugly head again, and now I am going to have to order a new PSU today, but back to the problem...

Basically push the power button, and fans appear to power up (CPU, GPU etc), but its audibly quieter than it should be (PSU is fan down, so can't check if its spinning up, but suspect its not when the problem occurs), NO HDD or power LED lights come on, and monitor light just flashes - no display whatsoever.

Solution two months ago was just to press power button to power down, and start again - usually after one or two attempts it would crank up just fine (including an initial full speed blast from a component fan before returning to idle, which has always been a feature of my system, and assume its the PSU since it doesn't happen when the problem is present). However, now it can take dozens (emphasis on the plural there) of attempts. This morning I sat in front of my new i7 system pressing and depressing the power button for about 15 minutes before it finally sprang into life.

So, knackered obviously?! Has anyone seen this before?

The 650 is discontinued I notice that BeQuiet's latest models aren't as highly regarded as their predecessors. I really like the fully modular system on this PSU.

Typically I bought it from OcUK on 29th July last year, so its just outside its year warranty - but will give them a bell this morning and see what can be done.

PC components - such annoying items at times!

The latest BeQuet PSU comes with 3 year warranty I would assume your current model would have have the same, it might be quicker to contact BeQuiet and do the RMA with them.

My Enermax blow up couple of years ago and I received a new model a few day later.

Had a similar problem with a SilenX PSU (Yes I know now) which went away after I replaced it. Also had a similar issue with a Q-Tec PSU (I make lots of PSU mistakes) which went away after I replaced it.

Just to make sure i got the handle on this, the pc boot's up ok but the psu fan does'nt always spin up?

Maybe it does'nt need to and only kicks in when it starts heating up. I know my Zalman does this.

No, the system doesn't boot. Although the CPU, GPU and case fans do spin up (as if the system was indeed booting up), the Hard drive and power LED's don't come on, and monitor light just flashes with no display. Whether the PSU fan is spinning up or not when this happens I am not sure. Either way, its easy to see when the problem rights itself as the LED's come on with the power button, and the system boots normally. Its obviously the PSU since its the only part of my old system that I ported over, and exactly the same problem is occuring. I'll bang it off to the manufacturers, as it does indeed have a 3 year warranty as RJC mentioned.

In the mean time I am going to have to buy a replacement as I hate being without my PC.

I sent my be quiet off 4 weeks ago still not received it back.got peed of without a pc so bought myself another psu, enermax:p

Ive seen this before, but it was a faulty board not PSU, have you got a spare PSU or board you can try/borrow off someone?

Think its pretty unlikely to be the board, as this has been happening for the last two months, but last weekend I built myself a new i7 system, and the only bit that I ported over was the PSU, hence since its now happened on the new system I am sure it is the PSU.

Went and bought a Corsair HX650 Modular this afternoon and everything is working fine so far. I don't like it though - the modular system isn't as good as the Be Quiet, and the cables aren't long enough, even for a Lancool K58, which is hardly a big case.

Still, it will get me by until I get something out of Be Quiet. Time to contact them and post it to Germany I suppose!

I do not believe it. Had this new Corsair PSU running for less than an hour, scoot down to the local corner shop, leaving the computer running. Come back and its shut down! Dead. Press power button, nothing.

Hooked up the old be quiet PSU again, and it worked first time. No doubt it will be back to its old tricks tomorrow morning but thats a seperate story. Guess I am hauling the Corsair unit back to the shop tomorrow morning.

Strange forces at work!
