My Hiper 425w PSU has just blown up. Massive shower of sparks, and from what I saw, there was some on my processor as well...

Obviously I'll need a new PSU, but is there anything else I'll need? This is the first PSU I've had that has broken, so I don't know if they usually take anything with them.

Any recommendations about a new one? My spec is ASUS K8N SLI PLatinum, A64 X2 4200+, 1GB PC3200, 6600GT, and SB LIVE 24bit.

Ack, nasty! Bloody Hiper PSU's :P

I'd buy the PSU first and go from there, you might find you got a bit lucky and the system works fine and the PSU only took itself out. Kinda depends on the PSU as well, if it's taken most of the system it's is rain of sparks then you might need something more powerful than I would suggest getting for that system (such as something around 400w is good enough for that, but if you did a respect you might need more).

Ideally testing the computer with another PSU before you get a new PSU would be the best bet.

Unfortunately, that was the only PSU I have. I'm on a laptop atm, and I highly doubt the psu will be powerful enough (if I even knew how to remove it).

My mum's taking it into work with her on Tuesday, so hopefully the technicians will be able to try a new PSU in there...
